Each day at a designated hour the students will get together in their assigned groups and have group meetings. Groups consist of about 7 girls. In these meetings they will discuss issues that they may have with one another and will choose one student who is in need of the most help. The group will work with the selected student on any issues that he may have or have had during his life or at the facility. Although the girls are not therapists, this type of help has proven to be very effective. The reason this therapeutic method is so successful is because the girls can relate to each other as they have experienced much of the same trials. The other advantage of this type of program is that it is very difficult for a girl to fool another girl. In some programs the girls figure out that all they have to do is manipulate the staff into believing that they are making changes in their lives. In reality they are just bluffing and acting like they think they are supposed to act. At Meadowlark Academy the girls will need to convince their peers they are changing, a much more difficult task. It may sound like this is an easier program for girls, but the format adds just the right amount of structure and discipline. The girls will have 24-hour supervision in all their activities. They will be required to help out with chores, make their beds military style, clean their rooms, and be respectful of adult leaders responding with "yes ma’m" and "no ma’m". The highly structured and patriotic component will also require the girls to wear uniforms, sleep in barracks, have flag raising ceremonies, and develop a love for their country and the armed forces that serve them.
The following schedule will give you an idea of the daily activities at Meadowlark Academy.
